TOUCH
The CA401 digital piano employs Kawai’s Grand Feel Compact keyboard action, which draws upon 90 years of acoustic piano craftsmanship to provide an incredibly realistic playing experience. All 88 black and white keys are crafted entirely from long pieces of wood, (as opposed to other digital pianos with wood glued to the exterior of a plastic key). Finely textured Ivory Touch key surfaces on the keys provide an authentic touch rarely found on digital pianos in its range.
As with an acoustic grand piano action, the long wooden keys rest on a metal balance pin and move with a smooth seesaw-like motion, while the extended pivot length ensures a consistent, evenly-balanced touch weight – even when playing towards the back of the key. The Grand Feel Compact action also incorporates grade-weighted hammers, bass region counterweights, and let-off simulation for added authenticity. The accurate triple-sensor key detection system allows rapidly repeated notes such as trills to be performed smoothly, without unnatural breaks in sound.
TONE
The CA401 digital piano features a totally new concert grand piano sample, the SK-EX ‘competition grand’, which is recorded from the performer’s perspective. This distinctive new sample is brilliant and clear and brings an exciting new dimension to the playing experience. Widely regarded as the “premier pianos of Japan”, Shigeru Kawai instruments grace the stages of concert halls and musical institutions throughout the world and are prized for their exceptional tonal clarity.
The new competition grand and the acclaimed Kawai EX concert grand samples found on the CA401 have been carefully recorded, meticulously analyzed, and faithfully reproduced with full 88-key sampling using Progressive Harmonic Imaging™ sound technology. This proprietary process accurately reproduces the broad dynamic range of the original grand pianos, affording pianists an extraordinary level of expressiveness ranging from the softest pianissimo to the strongest, most robust fortissimo.
BLUETOOTH®
The new CA401 digital piano boasts both integrated Bluetooth MIDI technology and Bluetooth audio. Bluetooth MIDI allows the instrument to communicate with most smart devices wirelessly. Once connected to a phone, tablet, or laptop, CA401 digital piano owners can enjoy a wide variety of exciting music-related apps that enhance their learning and playing experience without additional cables.
In addition, Bluetooth audio allows wireless connection from any smart device for streaming music through the piano’s sound system.
LESSONS AND EXERCISES
The CA401 digital piano features a three song recorder, allowing pianists to record their songs into the internal memory and play back their songs at the touch of a button.
In addition, the convenient lesson feature allows aspiring pianists to learn the piano using a built-in collection of etudes from Chopin, Czerny, Beyer and Burgmüller, or songs from the popular Alfred course books. The left and right hand parts for each piece can be practiced separately, while adjusting the tempo allows more difficult passages to be perfected.

PIANOREMOTE APP
Kawai’s multi-function app, PianoRemote, is supported by the CA401. Compatible with iOS or Android devices, our app enables players of supported Kawai digital and hybrid pianos to adjust a variety of control settings, enjoy a range of on-board piano music, or select among several piano and instrumental sounds.
VIRTUAL TECHNICIAN
An experienced piano technician is essential to fully expose the potential of a fine acoustic piano. Beyond meticulously tuning each note, the technician also performs numerous regulation and voicing adjustments that allow the instrument to truly sing.
The CA401 digital piano’s Smart Mode Virtual Technician simulates these refinements digitally, with ten preset configurations that adjust various characteristics of the grand piano sound to match different musical styles..
GRAND FEEL PEDAL SYSTEM
The CA401 features three pedals – soft, sostenuto, and damper (with half-damper capability). The Grand Feel Pedal System reproduces the individual weighting of each of the three pedals of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano, giving the pianist a more realistic pedaling experience.
ADDITIONAL SOUNDS
Complementing the stunning acoustic piano voices, the CA401 also features a variety of additional sounds, ranging from electric pianos, jazzy drawbar organs, majestic church organs, lush strings, incredible human choirs, and synth pads, inviting musicians to add greater variety to their performances. These additional sounds can be used as solo instruments or may be blended with the piano sounds to foster the pianist’s musical creativity.

SUPERIOR HEADPHONE EXPERIENCE
Headphones allow the pianist to play at any time of day or night without disturbing anyone. The CA401’s Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology enhances the depth and realism of the instrument’s sound when listening through headphones or earphones. The player can select one of three different acoustic presets that adjust the spatial positioning of the sound, for a more authentic listening experience. Another important aspect of Kawai’s exclusive SHS technology is that it helps to reduce auditory fatigue when using earphones or headphones for extended periods of time.
